I’m really excited to add a new type of shoot to my portfolio, introducing Dance Shoots! I started Lindy Hop at the end of last year, & it’s really changed my life. I can’t put into words how much fun it is to learn, Swing Patrol really prioritise making the lessons enjoyable & accessible to everyone. You rotate partner every minute or so, meaning a) you meet lots of friendly people without having to make small talk if you’re shy & b) you never feel like you’re holding anyone up if you don’t get a step straightaway & c) you don’t need to bring a partner, it’s entirely fine to come on your own. The classes are drop-in, and always start from scratch, so you’re never the only beginner, you can start whenever you like! 9 months on, I’m doing 1-2 classes a week, and 2 or 3 nights of social dancing, I honestly can’t remember the last time I was this happy. I even placed 2nd in a competition for Up & Comers!

Much of my progress is down to Michaela, who teaches my local class in Brixton along with Rupert, who I’m hoping to shoot soon. As well as being a wondrous human being and excellent dancer, she’s really really great at teaching, warm, friendly, funny & encouraging, so she was the obvious choice for my first studio dance shoot. I’m really happy with the results, I think I managed to capture her personality as well as her dance skills.

If you want to join the fun, see www.swingpatrol.co.uk for more details and to find your local class. There’s even a picture of me on the front page 🙂
