I went to visit the wondrous display of poppies at the Tower of London yesterday. For anyone unaware of it, they’re planting 888,246 poppies in the moat, one for every British serviceman who died in the First World War. It’s taking several months to complete, so every day there are large crowds of people watching the exhibition grow as more poppies are planted. These first two shots were taken with my shiny new iPhone of joy, as it’s Panorama function gives me a wider angle than any of my pro lenses.

While I was taking the photos, I didn’t feel I was getting particularly interesting shots; without access to the moat, the angles you can shoot from are limited & you can’t get up close. However, seeing the photos on a big screen when I got back, I’m very happy with the results. Although it’s much more breathtaking in the flesh (in the ceramic?), I think the photos do manage to give a sense of the scale of the project.

I’d planned to put up just a couple of poppy pics, as part of a blog about my whole visit to the Tower, but I think the poppies deserve their own blog.
