Final set of photos from last year’s wondrous trip to Fiji. These are from the hills just above the Blue Lagoon Beach Resort, in Nacula Bay, on Nacula Island in the Northern Yasawas. It’s about four  and a half hours by boat from the mainland, so as close to the middle of nowhere as I’ve been. This first one was taken in darkness (that’s the moon up there, not the sun!) hence the digital noise. I climbed the hill in pitch darkness (much of it was under trees) with just the torch on my phone to guide me. I subsequently discovered that there were giant spiders in the trees, I’m glad I didn’t look up at the time!
Once I reached the top, I could see the sun come up over the other side of the hill. It was really quite moving, no-one else around, all alone on a hilltop in the middle of a very big ocean, in total silence watching a new day dawn.
After I staggered back down, there was just time for one last trip to look at the coral, this time next to Blue Lagoon Beach, where they shot the film. As you can see, there were no end of amazing, brightly coloured fish to look at, & they were pretty friendly.
We got back in the boat & were taken to another nearby spot. At this one, they threw bread over the side, which attracted a huge shoal of zebrafish. It’s an incredible site, so many fish you can barely see the water between them, yet they manage never to actually touch you.
I also managed to find Nemo 🙂
After the journey back to the mainland, I had an hour or so to kill before heading to the airport, giving me time for one last sunset. It had colours I’d not seen before in the many thousands of photos I’d taken that week, so it was a great way to finish the trip.
